Train2Game, a good choice.

Train2Game, a good choice.

UPDATE 15/09/09.

Since this page gets a regular amount of hits from various searches every day, I thought I would give you an update.

I am really enjoying the course, I have had a little break of a couple of weeks whilst the kids were on holidays. But the that’s an advantage of a distance learning course. All is going well, I’m scoring pretty high on all my TMA’s (tutor marked assignments). The material’s and dvd’s are good and arrive promptly after completing each section. Looking forward to the next one, I have just completed Section 2 part A, just starting to get into the really good stuff.

It amazes me how utterly wrong all those so called experts really were in thier rants on various message boards. Anyhow, if you here because you googled Train2Game thinking its a scam do your self a favour and visit the website and certainly take some time to have a look around the forums

Original article written Jun 22 2009.

After looking around for while at various training course’s and options for improving my skill-set. I have enrolled and started on the new Train2Game  ,(T2G), Developer course. I got to know about it after seeing an advert in our local paper and rang the information number, gaming has always been a keen interest of mine along with programming. I had forgotten about registering an interest when a month or two later I had a phone call from T2G, after a brief friendly chat I arranged to meet one of the course adviser’s.

The meeting was a relaxed chat, the advisor took the time to explain the course content and to find out a bit about my background and current work/life situation. Having a close look at the content of the course I could tell that whilst the first section would be relatively staright  forward and nothing new for me, the rest of the course dealt with a lot of new area’s which would be of interest and benefit to me.  C++ has always been an interst to me and whilst the course is designed with the gaming industry in mind the course content would still give me enough skills to be able to code in C++ at a very competent level. After having a little time to think about it I rang back and arranged a second meeting to sign up.

Now, being a cautious type I decided to do some research and googled Train2Game as anyone would. This is were I found quite a lot of what on first impressions would seem to be very bad press. After reading some of these forums closely I soon came to the conclusion that the information that they were touting as viable and true, was in fact misleading at best and wholly inaccurate and libelist at worst.  It only went to reinforce my view that a lot of forums and discussion therein get hijacked by ‘trolls’ and bigots, that simply won’t to spread untruth’s and hate against anyone who dares to disagree with them. I do not believe that any of the people that have contributed to the threads in those forums have even tried the course. I would recommend anyone reading this who is thinking about taking the course go to the T2G Forums and read them, in particular this thread or this thread.

This was in april 2009,  I’m currently on Section 2 part A after completing the previous section, and can wholeheartedly say that the course is not a scam. In fact it is very well presented with good quality material and excellent support. The course cost is at time of writing £4960.00 , which can be paid for as a lump some or in installments of £135 * per month using T2G own credit agreement. Now I know that there are other course teaching C++ available and for less cost but you should look at the content and ask if it is a) what you want to get out and b) does it increase your skill-set they way you would like it to. The T2G course is backed by Tiga who is the industry trade body, with a Tiga diploma at the end of the course.

To conclude, I’m a happy student enrolled on and in the process of studying the course. I have been given good support through out and not given any misleading information as to cost or credit arrangements. There was never any pressure put on to take the course and at no time was I promised or lead to believe that I would be guaranteed a job in the industry at the end of the course.

*Edit.

Just to clear a point that amazingly some people can’t seem to work out for themselves, course cost is £4960.00 total there is a £100 deposit and 36 installments at £135 pounds. The finance is intrest free, offered by T2G through their own facility and backed by a payment protection scheme.
